Our Personal Message

Every child's story deserves a happy ending Please allow me to introduce you to the projects of the Lions Club of Potchefstroom to assist those less fortunate than ourselves. Our biggest project is our Love Box Project. 43% of kids in SA are abused. That's 4 in every 10! Last year we gave love bags to traumatized and vulnerable kids in excess of 900. These Love Boxes consist out of stationary (colouring book, colouring pens, writing pads and pencils), a face cloth, bar of soap, a soft toy and underwear for the kids ( because these are usually taken away by the SAPS for evidence). We also add coffee, porridge and sugar to the box. We also pack a special Box for women who have fallen prey to violence, sexual abuse and neglect. We have now also embarked on a Love box for abused and traumatized women. Magazines, personal goodies and a set of new underwear are added to these boxes. The baby box is specifically focused on babies. We also run a feeding scheme at one of the community farms where we feed the children once a month. The school has 120 kids. Lions Club of Potchefstroom
The Lions Love Box project started in 2006 after a needs analysis in the community. The need was for a box that could be given to compromised/traumatized/neglected/vulnerable children. These kids usually end up in orphanages, at Child Line or at the CPU at the SAPS. The box literally started in an empty shoebox with 5 basic items in it (a soft toy, a toothbrush, toothpaste, face cloth and a bar of soap). Later on the following items were added as the funds and donations became available: • Underwear (because these are usually taken for forensic evidence). • Sweeties • Comb or brush • Personal things for the girls. • Toys • Instant Porridge (like oats so easy) • Cup (usually fomo cup) • Spoon • Toys • Coulouring Book • Colour pens • Note Book for the bigger kids. • Sugar for the porridge. • Bible We now have a more durable plastic box, because this becomes their only procession. We and the Trauma councilors use these boxes in the therapy and the first step to a new life. The link is unfortunately and Afrikaans one that was published in the National Beeld Newspaper. Please follow this link http://www.beeld.com/Suid-Afrika/Nuus/Talle-kinders-kry-1ste-tandeborsel-ooit-in-die-Liefdeshouers-20100725 To answer you, we are in need of the items to pack the love boxes, or if you can manage it better a financial contribution. The cost to a love Box is R150 – R200 per box. We pack about 100 per month.
