ANNUAL CHARITY BALL: 30 OCTOBER 2010, ELGRO HOTEL, POTCHEFSTROOM
A very successful Charity Ball was held on 6 November 2009. Community heroes at this event were organisations committed to caring for the blind and people with impaired sight. Pieter van Niekerk, the Public Relations officer for The South African Guide-Dogs Association was the guest of honour. He received sponsorship for nine guide dogs during this occasion. The proceeds of the "Brightly Coloured Sight" project of the Potchefstroom Lions Club, an art exhibition held annually at the Main Museum during June/July, combined with generous contributions from the community, enabled us to make the lives of people with impaired sight a little more bearable.
We respectfully ask your support for the Charity Ball that will be presented on 30 October 2010 at the Elgro Hotel. In joining us you will be whisked away to "An evening at Tiffanys" with sparkle, glamour and heaps of BLING. You will also contribute largely to projects concerned with the welfare of those less fortunate than us, people living their lives not being able to experience the visual beauty of our world.
Entertainment during the evening will be presented with the finesse and high standard of a traditional Ball to ensure an enjoyable and memorable evening for you and your guests. This is presented as a small token of our appreciation of your contribution and commitment towards the community.
Availability of seats/tables is limited and a first come first serve policy will be implemented in allocating tables. The cost of a table, seating 10 people, will be R3500.00. Upon receipt of a table booking and sponsorship fees an acknowledgement of the booking will be sent. Donations other than sponsorships of tables are also welcomed. Banking details will be supplied on booking.
Your support is greatly appreciated and we look forward to meet you and your guests at the ball.
RSVP: Before 1 October 2010.

Lions Club of Potchefstroom
The Lions Love Box project started in 2006 after a needs analysis in the community. The need was for a box that could be given to compromised/traumatized/neglected/vulnerable children. These kids usually end up in orphanages, at Child Line or at the CPU at the SAPS. The box literally started in an empty shoebox with 5 basic items in it (a soft toy, a toothbrush, toothpaste, face cloth and a bar of soap). Later on the following items were added as the funds and donations became available:
Underwear (because these are usually taken for forensic evidence).
Sweeties
Comb or brush
Personal things for the girls.
Toys
Instant Porridge (like oats so easy)
Cup (usually fomo cup)
Spoon
Toys
Coulouring Book
Colour pens
Note Book for the bigger kids.
Sugar for the porridge.
Bible
We now have a more durable plastic box, because this becomes their only procession. We and the Trauma councilors use these boxes in the therapy and the first step to a new life. The link is unfortunately and Afrikaans one that was published in the National Beeld Newspaper. Please follow this link

To answer you, we are in need of the items to pack the love boxes, or if you can manage it better a financial contribution. The cost to a love Box is R150 R200 per box. We pack about 100 per month.
