Lions Club of Potchefstroom
The Lions Love Box project started in 2006 after a needs analysis in the community. The need was for a box that could be given to compromised/traumatized/neglected/vulnerable children. These kids usually end up in orphanages, at Child Line or at the CPU at the SAPS. The box literally started in an empty shoebox with 5 basic items in it (a soft toy, a toothbrush, toothpaste, face cloth and a bar of soap). Later on the following items were added as the funds and donations became available:
• Underwear (because these are usually taken for forensic evidence).
• Sweeties
• Comb or brush
• Personal things for the girls.
• Toys
• Instant Porridge (like oats so easy)
• Cup (usually fomo cup)
• Spoon
• Toys
• Coulouring Book
• Colour pens
• Note Book for the bigger kids.
• Sugar for the porridge.
• Bible
We now have a more durable plastic box, because this becomes their only procession. We and the Trauma councilors use these boxes in the therapy and the first step to a new life. The link is unfortunately and Afrikaans one that was published in the National Beeld Newspaper. Please follow this link

To answer you, we are in need of the items to pack the love boxes, or if you can manage it better a financial contribution. The cost to a love Box is R150 – R200 per box. We pack about 100 per month.
