Our Personal Message

The concept is quite simple in nature – While you make yourself beautiful, you contribute to making someone else’s life beautiful. Thousands of organisations around the world mark 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence between November 25th and December 10th. Acorn Foundation will add its voice to the growing chorus around the world and call for an end to gender-based violence to raise awareness, influence behavioural change and supporting victims of gender violence, by making it easy for all South Africans to do good, with our most ambitious and far reaching campaign to date. Nail-a-Thon campaign will happen nationally on 28 November 2014, when nail artists and technicians will pledge a portion of their fees per customer, to Acorn Foundation. Partnering with Acorn Foundation is Young Nails SA. Yolande Bekker, founder and CEO of Young Nails, says that partnering with Acorn Foundation was a no-brainer as their ethos and vision to change peoples’ lives and make a difference mirrors that of the Acorn Foundation . ‘’We would like to encourage all nail-bars, suppliers and salons to join us in this drive so that we make a real difference to those less fortunate in our communities.’’Says Yolande Bekker. Acorn Foundation has not forgotten about the men. Guys can accompany their ladies on the day and have a manicure to show that, while their hands are strong, they can be soft, and nurturing at the same time.’ In line with their policy of total transparency, the Acorn Foundation has earmarked a number of sectors that will benefit from the proceeds of the day. 80% of the funds raised will go to selected causes and our beneficiaries. 50% of this will be distributed to the 32 Acorn beneficiaries, 20% to the development of skills and enterprise for women and girls and 30% will go into Acorn Foundation Skills and Enterprise Development, education and scholarship fund. The balance of funds raised will be ploughed back into the Foundation to further develop education, products to alleviate hunger and provide nutrition, running costs and marketing materials. Corporates can support the campaign by spoiling their staff to a quick mani or pedi conveniently at their offices any day between the 25 November and 10 December. Bookings are essential.
Acorn Foundation NPC
Who are we? The Acorn Foundation works from a single, simple premise – Making it easy to do good. Using this principle as a foundation Acorn was established by founding member GloCell in late 2011. Over the next few years we have embarked on numerous projects with some of South Africa’s largest corporates to initiate projects and create a product base that is both viable and sustainable and make a lasting and tangible difference to our beneficiaries. With this ethos in mind, Acorn will tirelessly seek to raise funds through exciting and innovative campaigns. Having taken care of all the due diligence, identified individuals and communities in need, and implemented a channel to ensure funds get to where they need to go, we have taken all the hard work out of allocating your CSI spend to a cause where it will do the most good. Coupled to this, enshrined in our ethos is total transparency. At Acorn Foundation we aim to apply the highest standard of corporate governance, and it is in this light that we strive towards achieving a higher industry norm by maintaining a 10% to 20% administration cost to income ratio. What do we do? All our projects and initiatives have the common thread - sustainability. All our projects are sustainable and, in conjunction with our beneficiaries, we aim at instilling a lasting and tangible difference. With this ethos in mind, Acorn will constantly and relentlessly seek to raise funds through exciting and different campaigns. We can't do this alone, and that is why we believe in partnering with business in South Africa and institutions, so that we can have a greater impact on our chosen needy communities. How do we do it? It is not our intention to approach anyone with cap in hand. Our goal is to partner with business in South Africa and create practical, sustainable solutions to fit their CSI budget, corporate philosophy, and align with the overall mission and objectives of the company. Each solution will be tailor-made to maximise your spend. We wish to align ourselves on the precept of that we can add value to any company by offering them marketing opportunities via our national campaigns, events, media partners, networking opportunities and social media platforms to name but a few. There are also long term branding and co-branding opportunities via the plethora of products we have on offer and we are registered with all the relevant departments and authorities, which enable us to allocate BBBEE points. We will distinguish ourselves by: Giving a glimpse into what the future can be Giving Acorn Foundation a personality, a brand that has meaning, a brand that has life REALLY making it easy to do good. We currently support 32 organisations on a monthly basis, in addition to the various on-going projects we roll out - education, environmental, health, empowerment, to mention a few
