Charity Overview
Saviola United Football Club was establish in 2000 at Bottelary as a farm-based soccer club, especially and exclusively for the children of farm workers living on the Kaapzicht Wine Estate Farm. Since then the club has evolved to become one of the top clubs in Stellenbosch with most of its players originating from the Bottelary area in Stellenbosch. The club plays football in the Safa Cape Winelands Promotional League; Absa Women’s Regional League and also has a 1st Division team that plays in the Stellenbosch Local Football Association (LFA) League. Saviola United Football Club also has 3 youth teams (under 12, 14 & 16) and a women's team. The latter was established in 2009. This is amidst the fact that not much funds are available to run the club. Our objective is to promote and govern football in Bottelary, Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa, through maintaining stable structures for the game that enable its successful development at all levels for the benefit of all its participants and the community. The club was established to give the youth an alternative to violent behavior and alcohol and drug abuse. The success of the club is visible in the amount of crimes been reported on a monthly basis that includes the areas youth.
The aim is to create an environment where youth can come and enjoy the game of football irrespective of gender and race. Participation in team sports is an important way for community football players to develop social skills and learn lasting lessons about teamwork and camaraderie. The participants must recognize that success is measured not only in wins and losses, but also in the overall quality of the athletes produced by the integrated football program.
